QUALIFICATIONS

New South Wales

The urban data for 1996-97 were based on three surveys in August 1996, November 1996 and March 1997. From 1997-98 the results are based on two surveys only. (September and March of each financial year).

Victoria

Actual Travel Speed (Urban)

In accordance with the Travel Time Working Group's decision to amend the number of collections for Urban Travel Time from three to two per year, since 2002/03 Victoria's results have been based on data collected twice per year.  These take place in August/Sept and Feb/ March.

Melbourne’s Monitored Network

Melbourne’s monitored network comprises freeways and arterial roads.  The original monitored network was established over fifteen years ago and whilst some changes have been made over time, the outer area has limited coverage in areas of recent growth.  As a result, the monitored network does not fully reflect population growth, development and infrastructure improvements made in the outer growth suburbs.

Western Australia

Traffic volumes used for weighting purposes up to and including 2002-2003 are based on 1998-99 AAWT volumes.

2005-06
Two surveys in August and March were used in the analysis.  Some of the routes have been amended to include freeway extensions.

South Australia

Actual Travel Speed (Urban)

From 1998-99 data collection periods for performance measurement were reduced to two. In 2002-03, data collection periods for performance measurement were July/August 2002 and March/ April 2003.

Actual Travel Speed (Rural)

Data collection period was July/August 2002.  Survey not done in 2003.

Queensland

Rural travel times will next be measured in 2004-05.

Northern Territory

The Northern territory does not contribute to this indicator as with only isolated sections of congestions on Darwin's arterial roads, any data would be meaningless.
